Skittles
We have 4 double handed skittles lanes, which are fully automated and maintained in a professional manner. The Skittles lanes use synthetic surfaces thus ensuring there is no danger of getting wood splinters, a hazard still present at some venues with wooden lanes.
Members are encouraged to join any of the several adult and / or junior skittles leagues, details of these are posted on the appropriate notice boards within the Club. Alternatively, please contact Norrie Rudland on 0131 346 0560 (skittles) or for junior skittles, contact Alison Moody (07752 654648) or Alana McKinlay (07599 823424) for further details. Our leagues are always on the lookout for new players of any standard.
Please note: non-members are not permitted to participate in league sports.
However, you do not need to join a skittles league, as social skittles is actively encouraged in the Club.
We also have locker facilities for those members who wish to store their own equipment at the Club, though these are generally in short supply. Should you wish to have a locker please contact the Club secretary by email at thesecretary@murrayfieldindoorsportsclub.co.uk or drop a note in the Club’s office mail box. If no locker is available your name will be put on the waiting list.

Interesting facts about Skittles at the Club:
- As far as can be gathered, our form of skittles dates from the 1930s when a number of local pubs installed alleys;
- A small league was set up around the same time, but was abandoned during the war years;
- The EDSA League, as we know it, was constituted in 1945;
- Although most matches were played at the Club, several teams played their home matches at pubs and other clubs, such as Silver Wing, Abercorn, Robin’s Nest & Alexander’s;
- We believe the Monarchs Speedway Supporters’ Skittles League was started around 1952;
- The Club was originally located on the ground floor of the current building but closed at the end of season 1965/66 and reopened upstairs in October 1967. Four of the bowling lanes from downstairs transferred upstairs to become skittles alleys.
